Robust Readers 2026
At Ormiston Park Academy, we are proud to introduce Robust Reader 2026, our whole‑school commitment to developing a genuine love of reading. In line with the National Reading for Pleasure initiative, this programme places reading at the centre of our daily routines and strengthens our belief that reading is fundamental to academic success, personal growth, and lifelong learning.
Every Period 5 begins with 10 minutes of Reading for Pleasure, where the entire school community, students and staff, reads a book of their choice. This shared moment creates a calm, purposeful atmosphere and reinforces our culture of belonging, curiosity, and collective learning.
Robust Reader 2026 embodies our PARK values:
- Perseverance – students build stamina and resilience as they engage with longer and more challenging texts.
- Aspiration – reading widely inspires ambition, creativity, and a drive to learn more about the world.
- Responsibility – students take ownership of their reading choices and their development as independent readers.
- Knowledge – reading enriches vocabulary, understanding and cultural awareness, supporting success across the curriculum.
Through Robust Reader 2026, we aim to cultivate confident, fluent readers who view reading not as a task, but as a pleasure and a gateway to endless opportunities. By reading together every day, we strengthen our community and ensure that every student at OPA feels part of a culture that celebrates learning.
