Mathematics

Mathematics is a fundamental part of human thought and logic and helps us to understand the world and ourselves. If forms a crucial part of day-to-day lives as adults, enabling us to manage our finances and provide for our future. Mathematics provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigour. Also, almost all colleges and places of employment will require students to have passed GCSE Maths.

Students will expect to develop a range of skills by studying Maths such as:

  • Algebra
  • Ratio
  • Proportion
  • Rates of change
  • Geometry
  • Measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics
  • Basic, everyday Maths will also enable you to count change for customers and know what things such as ‘an inch off the top,’ actually means.
  • Maths is also useful in many other subjects such as Science, Geography, Psychology and Sociology.
  • More advanced Maths is also required for professions such as graphic design, computer programming, engineering, medicine, accounting, banking, business, law, the government and many other areas.
  • The logical and creative problem-solving skills which Maths develops will be used by you every day for the rest of your life.
