Transition

At Ormiston Park Academy, we know that moving from primary to secondary school is a significant milestone for every child and their family. While this period brings excitement, it can also feel overwhelming, which is why student wellbeing sits at the heart of our transition programme. We are committed to ensuring that every new student feels safe, confident, prepared, and happy as they begin their journey with us.

Our dedicated Transition Team works closely with students, parents, and primary schools to make the process smooth and welcoming. Throughout the summer term, parents and carers are invited to information evenings and transition meetings, while students take part in transition days where they can explore lessons, meet staff, and get to know their peers.

Our student leaders also act as Transition Ambassadors, offering guidance and encouragement to new starters and modelling the values we expect across the academy.

In early July, students who have been offered a place at Ormiston Park Academy join us for transition days designed to give them a real taste of academy life. They experience a variety of lessons, meet teachers, and tour the school environment to build familiarity and confidence. For students with SEND, or for those who may feel anxious about starting secondary school, we offer an extended transition programme to ensure every child receives the support they need.

How Our Transition Programme Reflects Our PARK Values

  • Perseverance: We help students build confidence and resilience as they take this important step, ensuring they feel supported throughout the transition process.
  • Aspiration: Transition days introduce students to the opportunities ahead, inspiring them to aim high from the moment they join us.
  • Responsibility: Our Transition Ambassadors model positive behaviour and leadership, showing new students what it means to take pride in their academy community.
  • Knowledge: Students and families receive clear information about expectations, routines, and life at OPA, helping them feel informed and ready for September.
