Vision
The three core purposes of Ormiston Park Academy: Education, Enrichment and Futures.
Education: The schooling at Ormiston Park inducts our students into the knowledge and achievements of humankind. Through this, it allows them to appreciate and understand the world and contribute to it.
Enrichment: Ormiston Park recognises and values the learning that takes place beyond the classroom which enables our students to develop wider interests, passions and the character to take into adult life. The school is a place where shared values, friendships and relationships are formed. They enrich our community and wider society.
Futures: Ormiston Park prepares our students to take their place in the world, and better qualifications afford our young people greater choice and opportunity. Every child should leave school with the skills they need to function in adult life. There is dignity in all forms of work and in different futures and many ways to live a good life.
Why Enrichment Matters
At Ormiston Park Academy, we value the diverse and exciting opportunities that schools have to offer. We also know that employers today are looking for more than just exam results. Skills like teamwork, communication, confidence and resilience are highly valued – and are key to success in life. Enrichment focuses on learning and experience that extends beyond the standard curriculum, helping our young people find their place in the world and cultivate broader interests, passions, and character that will serve them throughout adulthood. It aims to develop the whole child by building knowledge, skills, cultural awareness, creativity, leadership, and aspiration. Enrichment is intentionally integrated into academy life, providing every student with opportunities to explore, discover, and grow beyond the classroom, fostering both personal and social development. It is not an optional extra; it’s a vital part of what we do. Subject specific programmes, through to sporting teams and clubs for differing hobbies and pastimes are all delivered with our learners in mind.
Through enrichment, learners:
- Deepen their understanding and appreciation of themselves, others, and the world around them
- Discover new interests and enhance existing passions, skills, and knowledge
- Build positive mindsets and habits that support individual growth, teamwork, and contribution to local, national, and global communities
Key principles:
Inclusive and accessible: All students have equal access, including those who are disadvantaged or have SEND. We aim to make activities free and accessible to all. We actively encourage participation from all student groups, especially those who might face barriers
Enrichment extends learning from the classroom into practical, real-world, cultural, creative, sporting, and community-based experiences. Using our Enrichment Learning Journey, we aim to map out our pupils’ experiences during their time here at OPA.
Progressive and age-appropriate: Activities develop skills and understanding as students move through key stages, preparing them for further education, careers, and life beyond school.
Whole-child development: Enrichment nurtures character, resilience, leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility.
Engagement with the wider world: Students engage with the community, cultural institutions, industry, and the arts, broadening horizons and fostering aspiration.Structured and monitored: Participation, progression, and impact are tracked to ensure quality, equity, and measurable outcomes.
