Meet Buddy – Our Support Dog

At Ormiston Park Academy, wellbeing sits at the heart of our school culture, and every Wednesday we are delighted to welcome Buddy, our friendly and calming support dog. As part of Wellbeing Wednesday, Buddy spends time with students across the academy, offering comfort, reassurance, and a moment of calm in their busy school week.

Buddy’s presence has a powerful impact on student wellbeing. His gentle, soothing nature helps reduce stress and anxiety, supports emotional regulation and encourages positive interactions. For students who may be feeling overwhelmed, Buddy offers a safe, non‑judgemental source of comfort. His visits help create a warm, inclusive atmosphere where students feel supported, valued, and able to thrive.

Buddy’s role reflects our PARK values:

  • Perseverance – Buddy helps students build resilience by offering emotional reassurance during challenging moments.
  • Aspiration – His calming influence allows students to reset, refocus and engage positively with their learning.
  • Responsibility – Students learn how to care for and interact respectfully with a support animal, developing empathy and maturity.
  • Knowledge – Buddy’s visits spark conversations about mental health, wellbeing, and the importance of self‑care.

Buddy has quickly become a beloved member of our community, and Wellbeing Wednesday would not be the same without him. His presence strengthens our culture of belonging, showing students that at OPA, their wellbeing matters—and that support is always close by.
